Currant bread recipes

Any loaf of bread containing raisins or currants. Typical ingredients include wheat flour, water, yeast, salt, sugar, dried fruit, spices and butter.

Buyer's guide

Many different styles of bread contain dried fruit and often also some fat such as butter, spices such as cinnamon, and flavourings such as lemon or orange. Bread containing dried fruit is often served toasted, so it’s ideal to freeze it ready-sliced and then toast the slices directly from frozen.

You can add dried fruit to any bread recipe - up to 20% of the flour weight - without needing to make any other changes to the recipe. To add more, increase the liquid used in the recipe slightly as the fruit will draw in moisture from the dough.
