A carbonated beverage flavoured with a variety of roots, bark and herbs. Traditionally, root beer was made with a variety of barks and plants, such as sassafras, sarsaparilla and spruce, and contained a small amount of alcohol. Modern commercial root beers are artificially carbonated soft drinks and are often very sweet.
It is difficult to find traditional root beer, but commercial root beers are widely available.
Root beer is not made for long-term storage. Follow ‘best by’ dates and store in a cool place.
