Pomelo recipes

Pomelos can be between 10-30cm/4-12in in diameter and are the largest of the citrus fruit family. They have yellow skin, very thick pith and fragrant, sweet flesh, often with seeds.

Buyer's guide

Pomelos are sold in the UK from February until the beginning of June. Choose fruit heavy for their size.

Preparation

Pomelos are only served raw. Enhance their delicate flavour with chilli, mint and lime in savoury leafy salads and serve with shellfish such as prawns or crab. They make refreshing sweet fruit salads when combined with pomegranate seeds and lychees. Despite their size, pomelos only yield enough flesh for one person if eaten plain for breakfast.
